The Wayne County Airport, also known as New Castle Airport, is a small public-use airport located four miles south of the central business district of New Castle, in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a "general aviation" facility.
Opened in 1940 as a military airfield by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), the airfield was transferred to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 1951 and named Wayne County Airport. The airstrip was used by the Civil Air Patrol and was later leased to private operators. In 1981, New Castle Airport became an official reliever airport for Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), which at the time served as the primary commercial airport for western Pennsylvania. As traffic at PIT increased and its runway capacities were reached, New Castle Airport's role as a reliever airport diminished.
In recent years, the airport has seen a resurgence in activity as a general aviation facility. It currently has one helipad and operates three aircraft: a Cessna 182, a Piper PA-28 Cherokee Arrow II, and a Beechcraft Bonanza.
The Trenton-Mercer Airport Wayne is a small airport located in Wayne, New Jersey. The airport handles general aviation traffic only and has no commercial service. It is mainly used for private pilots and small aircraft.
The Trenton-Mercer Airport Wayne covers an area of 1,000 acres and has two runways: 11/29 with a 3,000 x 200 foot surface and 18/36 with a 2,500 x 150 foot surface. It also has two taxiways and one hangar. The airport can handle up to 10 planes at a time.
The Trenton-Mercer Airport Wayne was established in 1941 and began operations that same year. The name of the airport was chosen by the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) because it was located between the two Trenton-Mercer airports. The original Trenton-Mercer Airport was located in Mercer County and the second one was located in Camden County.
